About volcanoes
According to historical sources, the volcano last spoke 80,000 years ago. Now the volcano sleeps peacefully, as guests in our rooms. The surroundings of Komorní hůrka volcano are shrouded in many legends. For example, the legend of cursed souls. How else could people in earlier times explain rising poisonous gases and vapors? Today, however, we can declare with a clear conscience: Komorní hůrka is not haunted.

Back in time ...
Did you know that J. W. Goethe also visited Komorní Hůrka? At the same time, two groups of scientists: "Neptunists" and "Plutonists" were engaged in a fierce scientific dispute. The Neptunists interpreted the formation of rocks by settling from water and saw the cause of volcanic activity in the burning of underground coal seams. Plutonists were based on the theory of the Earth's hot core.

...with J.W. by Goethe
They explained the formation of volcanoes by eruptions of hot liquid substances, pushed by volcanic gullies from the interior to the surface of the earth. In this dispute, the Chamberlain played an important role and attracted the attention of scientists. It became world-famous in the geological literature of our country and abroad. The greatest credit for this goes to J. W. Goethe, who visited the West Bohemian spa every year since 1806...
Resolution of the dispute?
...in the summer of 1822, he held a historic meeting - together with Count Kašpar Šternberk, he also met with the Swedish chemist Berzeli, Dr. Pohl from Karlovy Vary and the Cheb Police Council Grüner. In order to settle their dispute once and for all, Goethe and Berzelius proposed to Count Šternberk that he finance the opening of a passage into the interior of Komorná Hůrka.
Count Šternberk
Count Šternberk agreed with the proposal, but the excavation took place only after Goethe's death in 1834. The location of the volcanic sopuch (volcanic crater, filled with solidified lava) was found with tunnels. This definitively determined the volcanic origin of Komorní Hůrka, and the long-standing scientific dispute ended with the victory of the plutonists.
Present
The current Komorní hůrka is a very peaceful place surrounded by greenery. It is the local well-being and tranquility that attract our guests to us.
